Vivo releases Android 15-based Funtouch OS 15: Check roll-out timeline
Vivo has introduced a new version of its smartphone software Funtouch OS 15, which is based on Android 15. Initially in beta, the company has announced the full list of devices receiving this update in India, starting with the X Fold3 Pro and X100 series in mid-October, with the rollout continuing until June 2025. Interestingly, the X Fold3 Pro users in India and Indonesia have already started getting it on their devices.
Google's delayed release opens opportunities for OEMs
Earlier this month, Google dropped the source code for Android 15 on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). This move lets smartphone makers whip up their own versions of the operating system. Usually, Google rolls out the source code for its new Android OS at the same time as the stable update on its Pixel devices. However, the situation is slightly different this year.
Funtouch OS 15: A closer look at the new features
Funtouch OS 15 offers enhanced fluidity, better personalization, and optimized performance for photography, gaming, and productivity. It leverages vivo's Priority Scheduling to improve app startup by 15%, while Memory Enhancement Technology uses zRAM compression for a 40% speed boost. This, combined with reduced GPU memory consumption, ensures smoother multitasking. Additionally, Vivo's Origin Animation introduces a natural, intuitive feel, and over 700 touch scenarios have been refined, ensuring a comfortable user experience. Note that these features may vary by model.
Enhanced customizations and AI features
Customization is a key focus, and Funtouch OS 15 offers a more customizable interface, allowing users to tailor their interface with over 3,800 redesigned elements, including new themes, fonts, and icons. The OS also boosts productivity with AI Image Lab for photo enhancement, Ultra Game Mode for an optimized gaming experience, and Link to Windows for seamless collaboration between your vivo device and Windows PC. Additional features like S-Capture improve screen recording capabilities with multi-track audio control and annotation options.
