Vivo's new tech can recharge a 4,000mAh battery in 13-minutes
While the camera and design aspects continue to dominate most of the conversation around smartphones, fast-charging tech is now taking center stage (and rightfully so). Just weeks after Xiaomi showcased its 100W fast-charging technology, rival Vivo has demonstrated a faster 120W Super FlashCharge solution that can juice up a 4,000mAh battery in just 13 minutes. Here's all about it.
All about Vivo's Super FlashCharge
Vivo has shared a teaser video, giving us an early look at it latest 120W Super FlashCharge technology. However, unlike the Xiaomi demo which showed an entire charge cycle, Vivo has only given us a glance at it. That said, Vivo has claimed that its 120W fast charging solution will fully charge a 4,000mAh battery in just 13 minutes (50% in just 5 minutes).
Xiaomi's Super Charge Turbo refills a 4,000mAh battery in 17-minutes
Back in March, Xiaomi announced its 100W Super Charge Turbo technology that is claimed to fully charge a 4,000mAh battery in 17 minutes. In comparison, Vivo's charging solution can do the same in 13 minutes - a new record in smartphone-related fast-charging technology.
However, there are concerns around such fast-charging technologies
Considering Vivo currently offers upto 50W fast charging via its Super VOOC Flash Charge technology, the new 120W solution is really breakthrough. However, there are concerns around technology like this. Primarily, such hi-speed charging tends to cause the battery to degrade in a short span of time. Secondly, such ultra-fast charging also causes overheating issues.
When will this technology come to smartphones?
As of now, Vivo has not shared any details as to when it will bring the 120W Super Flash on a commercial device. However, we expect the company to reveal more information on this game-changing technology next week at MWC Shanghai.
