Vivo launches APEX smartphone with 91% screen-to-body ratio
Chinese phone maker Vivo has launched its APEX smartphone with a spectacular screen-to-body ratio of 91%. The truly bezel-less device has the thinnest bezels ever seen, measuring only 1.8 mm on the top and sides and 4.3 mm at the bottom. The phone, first unveiled at the MWC 2018 last month, will begin mass production by mid-2018.
Vivo APEX has an in-display half-screen fingerprint scanner
According to Vivo, the FullView display technology of the smartphone is a result of microchips mounted directly on to the flexible circuit board, and a flexible OLED panel. The phone also features an in-display half-screen fingerprint scanner which means that users can unlock the phone by placing their fingers anywhere on the bottom half of the screen.
The phone has speakers inside the display itself
To make room for more screen space, Vivo has removed the integrated speaker at the front and put it inside the screen instead. The phone's Screen SoundCasting technology broadcasts sound by sending vibrations through the display. This works as both an earpiece and a loudspeaker.
Vivo APEX has a retractable front camera
Further, the 8MP front camera on the phone has become retractable in nature. It can be elevated from the top of the phone in 0.8 seconds whenever required, again to save screen space. The primary camera of the Vivo APEX reportedly includes features like an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm, smart optimization, ultra-dynamic, multi-frame preferences, character optimization, and natural tones.
The known specs of the phone
The Vivo APEX smartphone will reportedly be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. The handset will feature a 5.99-inch OLED display with ambient and proximity sensors embedded under it to deliver a full-screen user experience.
