Creators of AI-based death prediction tool warn against scam imitations
The creators of Life2vec, an advanced death prediction tool developed by American and Danish researchers, have issued a warning about fraudulent imitation apps. These deceptive "de-terminator" apps are reportedly misusing personal data, and are posing as Life2vec on various social media platforms. The developers of the platform, have disassociated themselves from any such groups claiming to use their technology.
Life2Vec's unique approach to predicting lifespan
Life2vec uses ChatGPT to estimate a person's lifespan based on factors such as income, occupation, location, and health records. "We use the fact that in a certain sense, human lives share a similarity with language," explained Sune Lehmann, the lead author of the study published in December 2023. He further elaborated that similar to words following each other in sentences, events follow each other in human lives. This AI-powered tool can accurately predict life expectancy 78% of the time.
Public cautioned against counterfeit websites
Despite Life2vec not being available for public or corporate use, some individuals have attempted to exploit its potential. The Life2vec team has urged the public to be cautious of these counterfeit websites that are unaffiliated with their project. These fake de-terminators often attempt to steal sensitive data such as email addresses, phone numbers, and credit card information and may potentially infect devices with malware.
Successful predictions and ethical considerations
Lehmann's team tested the AI's algorithm, on a diverse group of six million Danish individuals from 2008 to 2020. They used specific digital tokens representing different data points to estimate their approximate date of death. Life2vec was able to correctly predict who had passed away by 2020 over three-quarters of the time. However, Lehmann stressed that none of the study participants were informed about their death predictions, stating, "That would be very irresponsible."
