This is how you can check time spent on Facebook/Instagram
In a move that seems inspired by Apple's Screen Time feature, Facebook and Instagram have announced a new set of tools that will enable users to keep a track of how much time they spend on these platforms. Notably, the tools have already started rolling out to the users of Facebook and Instagram, and is currently available to 1% of them. Here's more.
Facebook and Instagram's joint statement on the new tools
"We want the time people spend on Instagram and Facebook to be intentional, positive and inspiring. Our hope is that these tools give people more control over the time they spend on our platforms," said Facebook and Instagram jointly in blog post.
How you can check your Instagram usage time
To check your usage on Instagram, open the 'Settings' menu and click on 'Your Activity'. Once there, you'll see a dashboard with details on the amount of time you spend on Instagram. In addition, the dashboard also allows you to set time limits on daily usage, and even lets you set daily reminders about the limits you impose on yourself.
'Your time on Facebook' offers similar features
The usage time monitoring feature will be accessible on Facebook via a button called 'Your time on Facebook' under the hamburger menu (the three line on the bottom-right corner of the app). The 'Your time on Facebook' feature will provide a similar dashboard like Instagram's and will also offer users similar features like setting limits on daily usage, and daily reminders.
Tech biggies want to improve quality of time spent digitally
As mentioned earlier, Facebook's move seems to be in line with Google's Digital Wellbeing initiative announced at I/O 2018, and Apple's Screen Time, which is set to make its debut later this year. Additionally, Facebook has introduced several changes to its content, including a move to emphasize posts from friends and family. The move resulted in a decrease in circulation of viral videos.
