Soon, Twitter may get Snapchat-like 'News Camera' feature
In a bid to compete with Snapchat and Instagram, Twitter is working on a new media-sharing feature. The company has been tipped to launch a range of capabilities, but this one is a Snapchat-like 'News Camera' that would let you customize media and live streams, TechCrunch reported. Evidently, Twitter is going to get even more engaging in coming months. Here's more on the feature.
News Camera to create 'Moments'
Just recently, app researcher Jane Manchun Wong unearthed the code for the 'News Camera' being developed by Twitter. The feature will apparently be accessed by left-swiping on the home page and will let you share photos, videos, and live streams with Snapchat-style captions and colored backgrounds. Users can choose between different colors and add location to share what Twitter calls 'Moments' on their timelines.
Social media consultant Matt Navarra even demoed the feature
This could spice up the Twitter feed
With a feature like this, Twitter could spice up its news feed with more media content. People already share photos on the platform, but News Camera with Snapchat-like elements could boost this activity, keeping users more engaged. To recall, Twitter has also been reported to be working on new dark mode, encrypted DMs, a way to react with GIFs, and a redesigned right-swipe menu.
Plus, it could make space for more ads
With more original content, from selfies to reaction shots/videos, Twitter could even have the opportunity to blend its photo and video ads more effectively. This can boost the company's revenue.
Twitter has also confirmed the development
Twitter confirmed the development of the 'News Camera', but did not reveal when it might roll out to everyone. "I can confirm that we're working on an easier way to share thing like images and videos on Twitter," a company spokesperson told TechCrunch. "What you're seeing is in mid-development so it's tough to comment on what things will look like in the final stage."
