The microblogging giant has released a list of topics that mattered the most to Indians - the most tweeted about hashtags of 2019. Let's take a look at them.
Lok Sabha elections, Cricket World Cup, Chandrayaan-2 drove most conversations
The biggest happenings of the year were the most tweeted about hashtags. First, it was the Lok Sabha 2019 election, which triggered a wave of political conversations, making #loksabhaelections2019 the most tweeted hashtag. Then, India's partially successful Chandrayaan-2 mission, which drew worldwide attention with #chandrayaan2, followed with Cricket World Cup 2019 (#cwc19). Notably, both topics saw people conveying a range of emotions on Twitter.

Apart from this, the hashtags that drove most conversations were #pulwama, the shocking attack resulting in the death of 40 CRPF jawans, #article370, which was revoked in August to take away the special status of Jammu & Kashmir, and #ayodhyaverdict for the final judgment on the long-standing Ayodhya dispute. In the category of entertainment, the top tweeted-about hashtags were Tamil movie #bigil and #avengersendgame.

Twitter also celebrated year-end by revealing the 'golden tweet of the year' - a message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi after winning the Lok Sabha elections. The company says that the post-victory message from the PM became most retweeted and liked tweet of the year. In sports, Indian cricket skipper Virat Kohli's birthday message to former skipper MS Dhoni was the most retweeted tweet.
