Twitter's rebranding transition complete: X.com is now official domain name
Twitter has undergone a significant rebranding, officially adopting X.com for all its core systems. Numerous elements of X such as its official account, mobile apps, and the "X Premium" (formerly known as Blue) subscription, transitioned to the updated branding some time back. However, the platform's URLs have persisted as twitter.com ever since Elon Musk formally initiated the transition to X. Now, users typing twitter.com into their web browsers will be redirected to X.com.
Musk confirms the transition to X.com
The shift began last year
The transition from Twitter to X started in August of the previous year. Some users were even able to copy x.com links directly from within the newly branded X's iOS app. However, this transition has not been without its challenges. Cybersecurity expert Brian Krebs highlighted last month that phishing attacks have exploited the somewhat clumsy transition process.
Musk envisions X as an 'everything app'
Musk's association with the x.com URL dates back to 1999 when he launched a business under this name, which later merged with what would become PayPal. For this new iteration of the company, Musk envisions X.com becoming an "everything app" akin to WeChat.
