Twitch to provide detailed reasons for user account suspension
Twitch, the popular live streaming platform, has announced plans to provide users with more clarity regarding account suspensions. The announcement was made by CEO Dan Clancy during the opening ceremony of TwitchCon San Diego. The new approach aims to share specific chat excerpts that resulted in a suspension, via email and through the appeals portal. This initiative is expected to extend to clips as well.
Transparency move and strike expiration policy
Twitch's transparency move is designed to help users understand their violations, and appeal if they disagree with the platform's decision. The company stated in a blog post, "We want to give you this information so that you can see what you did, what policies were violated." Additionally, Twitch plans to introduce a strike expiration policy in early 2025 to prevent minor mistakes from leading to permanent bans for long-standing streamers.
2K streaming and vertical broadcasting
Twitch also announced enhancements to its broadcasting capabilities. Starting next year, viewers using the Enhanced Broadcasting feature will have access to 2K streams in select regions, with plans for a global rollout throughout 2025. The platform is also developing capabilities for vertical and landscape video streaming simultaneously, aiming to optimize viewer experience across different devices.
Improved mobile app and new features
Twitch is set to revamp its mobile app for improved navigation, including easier access to Followed channels and prioritized audio from the picture-in-picture player. A new feature called Clip Carousel will be introduced, allowing streamers to showcase top clips from their latest streams on both desktop and mobile platforms. The company also plans to simplify clip creation for viewers on mobile devices.
Shared chat option and expanded Unity Guilds
Twitch will introduce a shared chat option in the Stream Together feature, enabling up to six creators to merge their chats during a joint stream. This feature aims to facilitate moderation of all messages in a shared chat and enforce community guidelines. The platform also plans to expand its Unity Guilds and Creator Clubs, initiatives designed to foster connections among streamers and promote growth with assistance from Twitch staff.
