Twitch to introduce TikTok-inspired discovery feed within its mobile app
Live-streaming video service Twitch is set to launch a new discovery feed, inspired by popular social media platform TikTok. The feature will allow users to browse through unique feeds dedicated to clips and ongoing livestreams, all within the mobile app. Twitch has confirmed that any livestreams or clips that comply with its content guidelines are eligible for inclusion in this new discovery feed.
Discovery feed to take center stage
In the coming months, Twitch's new discovery feed will not only be a tab within the mobile app but may also become the homepage for some users. As users explore this live feed, they will encounter content from creators they follow and streams recommended by Twitch. If a particular stream catches their interest, users can tap on the creator's avatar to enter theater mode and interact with the livestream. The new feature aims to enhance user engagement/interaction with live content.
Clips stream: A hub for shortform videos
The discovery feed will also feature a clips stream, serving as a hub for shortform videos sourced from Twitch livestreams. When a creator is live, Twitch will broadcast this information, providing users with the option to tune in if they desire more content. However, it's important to note that ads will continue to be part of the feed. As stated by Jess Sung, product manager at Twitch, users can easily scroll past them without disrupting their viewing experience.
