X accounts of Trump's family members hacked; crypto scam promoted
The social media accounts of Lara and Tiffany Trump were reportedly hacked on Tuesday evening. The hackers took control of their X (formerly Twitter) accounts and posted fraudulent messages promoting a cryptocurrency token allegedly associated with World Liberty Financial. Lara and Tiffany are the daughter-in-law and daughter of former US President Donald Trump, respectively, This incident was confirmed by Eric Trump, the middle son of Donald, who warned followers about the fraudulent activity on his wife and sister's X profiles.
World Liberty Financial warns followers about the hack
World Liberty Financial also issued a warning about the security breach on its social media account. The company urged followers not to click on any links or purchase any tokens shared from Lara and Tiffany's profiles, stating that they were actively working to resolve the issue. This incident marks at least the third time a token allegedly linked to Donald has been launched under dubious circumstances.
Previous instances of questionable token launches
In previous instances, a DJT token was launched by convicted fraudster Martin Shkreli, who claimed it was developed with Barron Trump (Donald's youngest son) and other developers. However, no member of the Trump family confirmed their involvement in this project. Another token named Restore the Republic (RTR) briefly reached a valuation of $155 million before plummeting. These incidents highlight the recurring pattern of fraudulent activity involving tokens falsely linked to the former US President.
Donald to lead World Liberty Financial's DeFi platform
The security breach occurred shortly after CoinDesk disclosed details about World Liberty Financial's plans. The company is developing a borrowing-and-lending DeFi platform that intends to issue a token named WLFI. Although no official launch date has been set, the white paper suggests that Donald Trump will serve as the "chief crypto advocate" for this project. His sons Eric, Donald Jr., and Barron are also expected to play significant roles in it.
