Truecaller now lets users integrate personal voice with AI assistant
Truecaller now allows users to integrate an AI version of their voices for answering phone calls. The service will be available to users who have access to Truecaller's AI Assistant, which screens incoming calls and informs users about the reason for the call. Users then decide whether to answer the call themselves or let the assistant respond on their behalf.
Personalizing the user experience
Truecaller's AI Assistant, first introduced in 2022, is currently available in select countries. Previously, users could only choose from a preset number of voices for the assistant. However, they can now record their own voice to use inside the assistant.
What powers Truecaller's service?
Truecaller's personal voice service is leveraging Microsoft's Azure AI Speech technology, which will learn from a recorded clip of the user's voice to generate an AI version. Microsoft's Azure AI Speech technology was shown at the Build conference where it introduced a personal voice feature that replicates recorded voices. Truecaller's partnership with Microsoft aims to personalize and enhance user experience with digital assistants.
Azure AI Speech ensures ethical use
Microsoft has clarified that the personal voice feature is offered on a limited basis, and only for specific use cases such as voice assistants. The company also stated that it automatically adds watermarks to voices generated by Azure AI Speech's personal voice. Furthermore, Microsoft has released a code of conduct requiring full consent from people being recorded and prohibiting impersonation, ensuring ethical use of the technology.
How to set a personal voice?
Truecaller has started rolling out the personal voice feature to its Premium users in select countries including the US, Australia, South Africa, Canada, India, Sweden, and Chile. The company plans to expand this feature to other regions soon. Users can go into settings, select 'Assistant' settings, choose 'Set Up Personal Voice,' and follow instructions to record their voice for about a minute.
