What's the story

As part of its Smartisan brand, ByteDance, the owner of popular video platform TikTok, has launched its first-ever smartphone in China. Dubbed as Jianguo Pro 3, the handset has been created to expand the company's portfolio beyond news and video apps. However, hardware wise, the phone is pretty much like any other flagship phone you can buy in 2019. Here's our roundup.

Design and display

Jianguo Pro 3: At a glance

The Jianguo Pro 3 features a familiar waterdrop notched screen with a slim bottom chin and metal frame. On the rear, the glass-like chassis houses quad-rear camera arranged vertically on the top-left corner. Further, the phone sports a 6.39-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1080*2340 pixels and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. An in-screen fingerprint is also part of the package.

Cameras

The phone offers a versatile multi-lens setup

The Bytedance smartphone packs a quad-lens camera setup comprising a 48MP (f/1.75) main sensor, paired with a 13MP ultrawide-angle lens with a 123-degree field-of-view. These sensors are joined by an 8MP telephoto camera and a 5MP macro camera. The company has also developed an algorithm that can intelligently correct distortion in the ultrawide-angle mode. On the front, there's a 20MP (f/2.0) selfie snapper.

Internals

Under the hood

The Jianguo Pro 3 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ processor, paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB of built-in storage. Under the hood, it is backed by a 4,000mAh battery which supports 18W fast charging. As for the operating system, there's no word on what version of Android it runs out of the box. However, Android 9 Pie is a safe guess.

Customizations

The phone will come with a bunch of custom tricks

Since it's a ByteDance phone, the presence of the company's apps and services is no surprise. You can swipe up on the lock screen to quickly launch Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok. There's also an option to apply TikTok effects and filters to videos of any length. If you're interested, the handset is on sale in China at 2,899 yuan (about Rs. 29,000).
