TikTok to discontinue its Spotify rival this November
TikTok has announced plans to terminate its music streaming service, TikTok Music, on November 28. This decision marks the end of a multi-year endeavor by the company, to compete with industry giants such as Spotify and Apple. The news was disclosed via a post on the music division's website, instructing users to transfer their playlists to other platforms by October 28.
User data deletion and service transition
TikTok Music has confirmed that all user data will be erased following the service's discontinuation. The company has not yet provided a public statement regarding this decision. The music streaming service was an initiative by ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, to leverage the app's influence and popularity among music enthusiasts.
TikTok Music's impact on the music industry
TikTok videos have been instrumental in propelling hit songs and emerging artists to fame. However, this success has also sparked disputes with record labels over compensation for using their content. The music app, initially named Resso, was launched in 2019 as a strategy to direct TikTok users toward a new platform.
