TikTok's upcoming AI-driven feature can clone your voice
TikTok is developing an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) feature that will convert text to speech, according to TheSpAndroid. The information was revealed by AssembleDebug, who found the code in the latest version of the TikTok app for Android, and managed to activate some of the features. The code hinted at a TikTok Voice Library, and an option to Create Your Voice with AI.
Decoding TikTok's AI voice creation process
The coder managed to give us a glimpse of the introductory screen that describes the process: "Create an AI version of your voice in just 10 seconds! You'll be able to use it with text-to-speech in TikTok videos." After this introduction, users were guided to the first of four TikTok Voice Library Terms pages. These pages offered insight into how voice recordings are handled by the platform, and explained how recorded voices can be removed from TikTok's servers.
Early stages and future expectations
Upon accepting the terms, users are led to a recording page, which currently appears blank, possibly due to the feature being in its early stages of development. When fully operational, this feature will prompt users to read a piece of text displayed onscreen. This process will allow TikTok to identify the user's voice and make it available in the TikTok Voice Library for others to use, according to AssembleDebug.
Concerns and anticipations surrounding the feature
Despite the text-to-speech tool still being under development, concerns have been raised about potential misuse, especially in an era where misinformation is widespread on digital platforms. It is expected that TikTok will provide more information on how it plans to address such issues. However, further details are not anticipated until the facility is ready for a broader release.
