From products to logos, entire company being built using AI
Over the years, we have seen a tremendous rise in the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning systems. The tech is being widely employed by companies like McDonald's and Levis to streamline manufacturing processes and offer better products. But now, in an interesting case, we've stumbled upon a company that's been built with AI and is selling AI-designed products. Here's all about it.
Meet Cross & Freckle: A company selling AI-designed t-shirts
Product Hunt, a popular platform to discover new products, recently reported the launch of a clothing company named Cross & Freckle. The start-up focuses on selling t-shirts, which look just like any other tee you'd find in regular retail outlets. But, this is where things get interesting; these t-shirts have actually been designed by a sophisticated AI algorithm.
And not just products, entire company's been built with AI
While there are many companies that use AI for coming up with designs and product ideas, Cross & Freckle's entire foundation has been established with AI. According to Product Hunt, the people behind the project - Paul Blankley, Tyler Becker, and Sarah McBride - built all business related materials, from logos and marketing copies to its name itself, using machine learning models.
How their AI created t-shirt designs
To create the t-shirts, the company trained its machine learning algorithm with Google Creative Lab's "Quick, Draw!" dataset as well as NYC-themed drawings. The dataset included more than a million open sourced images and allowed the algorithm to produce clean-looking doodles of rats, dogs, pizza, and pigeons for the t-shirts. The shirts are available for sale at $25/item on Cross & Freckle's online store.
Generative tools inspired the whole AI effort
"The original idea was simply to use AI to generate the doodles," McBride told Product Hunt. "Then we started seeing other generative websites and tools pop-up on PH...so we decided to see just how much of a start-up you can generate with AI."
AI-employment continues to grow in retail
The launch of the company comes just as leading retail organizations continue to employ AI for improving their offerings to match market needs. Last year, the retail spend on AI stood at $2 billion, and going by current trends, this will increase up to a whopping $7.3 billion by 2022. The tech will be used for generating product/business ideas as well as automating processes.
