#LeakPeek: Huawei Mate X 5G foldable phone spotted on billboard
After Samsung, Huawei is likely to be the next technology giant to jump onto the bandwagon of foldables. The company has long been teasing plans to unveil a foldable phone, and now, thanks to the power of internet, we have got a glimpse of the device. It will be called Huawei Mate X and will be completely different from Samsung's Galaxy Fold. Here's more.
Huawei Mate X spotted on billboard
On February 24, Huawei plans to host an event in Barcelona where the company is expected to unveil its foldable phone and various other products. However, just a day before launch, a Twitter user spotted the device on a billboard and managed to capture its image. This shot, which has now gone viral, confirmed the phone's name, design, and other capabilities.
Mate X to fold outwards
From what is seen on the billboard, Mate X is expected to follow a different folding mechanism. Basically, unlike Galaxy Fold, which folds like a book, this tablet-like device will follow an outward folding style. This means both parts of the screen will be on the outside when the phone is fully folded - with one fully-lit like a smartphone, other deactivated.
What else the banner confirms
The billboard also shows Mate X will have multiple camera sensors and 5G capabilities; it dubs the device as the 'world's fastest foldable 5G phone'. Samsung is also rumored to launch a 5G variant of Galaxy Fold, but that's just a rumor at this stage. Apart from this, no other details regarding Mate X, including its pricing, were seen on the banner.
Rumored features of Mate X
Going by rumors, Mate X is expected to sport a 7.2-inch display and a HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC and Balong 5000 modem under the hood. There is no word on the RAM, battery, and camera capabilities of the device, but considering the dual battery and six-camera setup of Galaxy Fold, we expect the upcoming device to be equally well-equipped.
Huawei plans to manufacture some 30,000 units
Reports have suggested that Huawei plans to manufacture some 24,000 to 30,000 units of its foldable smartphone in the initial stage. However, it is still not clear if India will be one of the markets it would hit, following the launch.
