Samsung launches Note 8, Note 7 users to get discounts
The South Korean electronics giant Samsung has launched the high-end Galaxy Note 8 phablet at its latest Galaxy Unpacked event in New York. It is one of the most awaited phablets. Samsung is offering a discount of up to $425 on it, exclusively for the Note 7 users. With this release, Samsung hopes to regain its reputation after the Note 7 debacle last year.
The largest display on any Note series device ever
Samsung Note 8 has 6.3 inches screen size with dimensions of 162.5 x 74.6 x 8.5mm. It runs on Snapdragon 835 processor. It will run on Android 7.1 and has dual 12MP main, 8MP front cameras. The two cameras on the back let users create depth effects and zoom better. It has a split-screen multitask mode, which allows users to launch two apps at once.
The 'Dual Capture' camera mode
Note 8 has OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) in both the rear cameras; users can capture steady, shake-free pictures and videos. Using its Dual Capture camera mode, two pictures can be clicked at the same time, which can either be stitched together or saved individually.
What else does Galaxy Note 8 offer?
Note 8 has 6GB of RAM and is powered by octa-core processors in two different configurations. It houses a 3,300 mAh battery and comes in 64GB/128GB/256GB internal storage options. It supports facial recognition and wireless charging technology. The dust and water resistant device also has fingerprint and iris scanners.
The all-new S-Pen features
The S-Pen now allows users to take notes of up to 100 pages even when the phone screen if off. The stylus has a much finer tip and better pressure sensitivity. S-Pen can also be used in messaging apps; users can create art (pictures and gifs) and share it with others. It can also highlight and translate text into as many as 71 languages.
Discount for Note 7 owners
Samsung is offering a discount of up to $425 on the Galaxy Note 8 exclusively for the Note 7 users. "Eligible" Note 7 users can avail the offer on Samsung.com. Last year, some of the Note 7 devices exploded due to defective batteries.
Samsung brings DeX docking hub to Note 8
Users can turn the Galaxy Note 8 into a desktop computer with the help of Samsung DeX docking station. The handset can be docked in the DeX device, which can be connected to a monitor, keyboard, and a mouse for a desktop-like experience. At the launch, Samsung reportedly announced the DeX docking station would be bundled with pre-orders of Note 8.
A dedicated Bixby physical button
Note 8 supports Samsung's Bixby, the voice-controlled digital assistant and has a dedicated button for it. Bixby launches multiple apps and actions with simple voice commands of one or two words. It works with the phone's camera, curve edge screen, S-Pen, VR support, etc.
The most expensive Samsung smartphone ever
Samsung confirmed that Note 8 will go on sale on 15 September. Users can also pre-order the device; reports say pre-ordered Note 8s will be delivered shortly before the actual release. Pre-orders would begin on 24 August. It would be priced at £869 in the UK (approximately Rs. 71,000) while the price in US is still not announced. It is Samsung's most expensive smartphone till date.
