Telegram clones Clubhouse with Voice Chat 2.0
Following the footsteps of Twitter and Facebook, Telegram has jumped on the Clubhouse cloning bandwagon. The messaging service's new Voice Chats 2.0 feature improves on the original one (which was introduced only last year) by incorporating features that mimic the audio-only social network Clubhouse that's all the rage now. In addition to quality-of-life improvements, the updated Voice Chat is now extended to channels.
Promises millions of live listeners compared to Clubhouse's 5,000 limit
Unlike Clubhouse, Telegram allows virtually limitless number of Voice Chat participants. The blog post boasts of allowing "millions of live listeners," which makes Clubhouse's 5,000 participants cap look ridiculous. Telegram also makes it easier for celebrities to jump into Voice Chats by giving them the choice to join as one of their channels, which will help them mask their original accounts.
Telegram will allow admins to record voice chats, share recordings
Like Clubhouse, the feature will allow Telegram channel admins to host voice chats. The process is fairly simple and involves entering the profile page of any group or channel, tapping on the menu button, and selecting the Start Voice Chat option. The update also allows admins to record voice chats, which can then be published in the same groups and channels for posterity.
Participants can raise hands to request a chance to speak
Other Clubhouse feature carried over include the Raise Hand feature, which can be used by participants to signal the admin to let them speak. Doing so triggers an animation which call the attention of the admin, who can then bring up a pop-up menu to either allow the participant to speak, or open chat, or kick them off the session.
Voice Chat 2.0 includes convenient event sharing features
The Voice Chat 2.0 update is rounded off by allowing admins to create links to the voice chat events. Separate links can be created for speakers and listeners, which makes streamlining the process easier. Furthermore, admins can add titles to help invitees get an idea of the topic of the conversation without requiring them to join the conversation.
