Switched off OnePlus device mysteriously catches fire: Details here
In an extremely weird case, a five-year-old OnePlus One burst into flames out of nowhere. The device was switched off and unplugged when it mysteriously caught fire and started spewing out toxic fumes. Luckily enough, its owner woke up unharmed and was able to put out the fire before it got worse. Here's all about the incident.
India Today anchor reported the explosion
On July 3, India Today anchor Chaiti Narula reported the explosion by sharing the images of the charred device. Going by the email complaint Narula attached, the device exploded around 3:15 am when its owner, a person she knew, was sleeping near it. The fumes from the burning device woke up the owner, prompting him to put out the fire immediately with water.
Fire could have caused fatal injury, says owner
"On seeing the fumes filled in the room, I immediately splashed water on to the device to douse the fumes and flames," the owner said, adding that if he had not woken up in time, "the mobile would have exploded", causing fatal injuries.
But, how did the fire start?
While the fire was put out in time and the owner wasn't injured, it still remains unknown how it started in the first place. Normally, cases of device fire stem from the use of third-party chargers or excessive heating, but here, the phone was switched-off and not even plugged to the power point. Even the room was air-conditioned, with the temperature set to 19-degrees.
OnePlus is investigating the matter
Following the explosion, the owner reported the incident, holding both OnePlus and Amazon, the seller of the device, responsible for what he called 'an inherent manufacturing defect'. In response, OnePlus has tweeted out that its "critical escalations Team has already reached out to the Customer and are working hard to resolve the issue in the best possible way."
