Apple Watch Series 3 Cellular's India launch on May 11
Apple will launch its Apple Watch Series 3 Cellular in India on May 11. The standard GPS-only variant has been available in India since last year, but now the GPS+Cellular variant has also come to the market. The smartwatch comes with a cellular connection, and through an e-SIM, lets users make calls, send SMS, receive notifications, and listen to music even without their iPhones.
The smartwatch will be priced around Rs. 39,000
The smartwatch will be available in these options: an aluminum case with sports band or sports loop, stainless steel case with sports band or Milanese Loop, aluminum case with Nike Sports Band or Nike Sports Loop, and ceramic case with sports band. It is only compatible with iPhone SE, iPhone 6/6 Plus, iPhone 6S/6S Plus, iPhone 7/7 Plus, iPhone 8/8 Plus, and iPhone X. It is expected to be priced around Rs. 39,000.
Apple Watch Series 3 Cellular is water-resistant, tracks fitness activity
The Apple Watch Series 3 Cellular features a more efficient dual-core processor and an improved GPS, Bluetooth, and wireless connectivity. It runs the watchOS 4 and comes with sensors that can track activities like walking, hiking, climbing, and heart rate. To be compatible, the smartwatch should be running watchOS 4.3 and your iPhone should be on iOS version 11.3 or above.
Airtel, Jio to offer cellular connectivity on the smartwatch
Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel are offering connectivity on the Apple Watch Series 3 Cellular in India and have introduced special cellular services for the same. Airtel postpaid customers on any 'My Plan' or 'Infinity Plan' can avail a connection on the smartwatch for free. They can pre-register for the smartwatch starting May 4 through the Airtel Online Store.
Pre-bookings will start on May 4
As for Reliance Jio, it has introduced a new cellular service called JioEverywhereConnect especially for the smartwatch. Under it, users will be able to "make calls, use internet and apps" on the Apple Watch for free. Registrations have begun on Jio's website and pre-orders will start on May 4. Notably, it is mandatory to have the same telecom operator on your smartwatch and iPhone.
