Now, there's a 'kids' version of Spotify with curated playlists
In a bid to create a more personalized music experience, streaming giant Spotify has launched a new 'kids' version of its mobile application. The app, dubbed Spotify Kids, offers a dedicated space to let your kid explore their own music or go through the content handpicked by experts. Here's all about the new service and its working.
Music space needed a kid-friendly product
Currently, music streaming services offer family plans that give all members of a household a chance to explore music on a single account. The feature helps in saving money, but on most occasions, kids and adults of a family log into the same app. Now, this means young kids essentially go to the same place where there might be a lot of explicit content.
Spotify Kids comes as the ultimate solution
In order to tackle this whole 'content filtering' problem, Spotify has launched the dedicated 'kids' app. The program comes with a colorful, kid-friendly interface and gives children aged 3 or more a personalized space for searching/playing their own singalongs, tunes, and soundtracks. Plus, there are playlists featuring completely appropriate, kid-friendly music handpicked by experts from Nickelodeon, Disney, Discovery Kids, Universal Pictures, et al.
All the content is filtered, so no explicit content
As the content on Spotify Kids is hand-curated and filtered, parents can rest assured that their child won't encounter explicit music or something that they don't approve of when kids are browsing the app alone. The categories of the app have been divided into simple genres like Movies & TV, top hits, Activities (bedtime, homework, playtime, etc.), party, seasonal, Spotify Originals, artist/groups, and Stories.
Plus, it's free to download
Spotify Kids is free to download, but do note that the program won't work without a Spotify Premium Family subscription. If you have the family plan, just install the app, log into your account, and set up the kid profile by adding their name, date of birth, animated avatar, and picking the content you think is suitable for them (according to age).
