Soon, Samsung TVs will let you control PCs: Here's how
The International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is days away, but Samsung is already showing off stuff it plans to commercialize in future. The South Korean giant recently showcased a bunch of AI projects, and now, it has unveiled a feature that will make its upcoming smart TVs super-capable. Basically, it will let users control their PCs directly from their smart televisions. Here's how.
Remote access to enable wireless control
The fancy feature is called 'Remote access' and it will let you access your PCs, laptops and even smartphones/tablets. So, with a television loaded with this feature, you'd able to connect any of these devices and see/use compatible apps wirelessly. Imagine playing a smartphone game on your smart television or may be accessing some files from a laptop lying in your bedroom.
How this feature would work
Going by Samsung's announcement, the feature would establish a wireless connection using IP network for desktops and Wi-Fi for laptops/smartphones. Once this connection is established, you'd be able to use a regular keyboard and mouse to access the apps on the device in question. However, don't expect this feature to work freely as Samsung clearly notes it will enable control of some 'compatible apps'.
When this feature would be available?
Samsung has confirmed that the feature would be available across the world through its Smart TVs coming in 2019. The company notes that the feature's wireless connection would be protected with its proprietary "Knox security technology". Plus, it would also offer a 'browser-based cloud office service' so that you can easily access all your files and documents.
However, many questions still unanswered
Samsung's Remote Access sure sounds interesting, but the company should provide more insight into how the feature would work, how much control users would have over their devices, and which apps will be supported.
