Sony's latest flagships Xperia XZ2, XZ2 Compact coming this March
At the MWC 2018, Sony Mobile has unveiled its two new flagship smartphones namely the Xperia XZ2 and the Xperia XZ2 Compact. Both smartphones, sharing top-of-the-line specs, can only be differentiated in terms of size, weight and color variants. As for their availability, both Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact will be available starting March 2018. Here's more on Sony's latest flagships.
Only if size matters
Both, the Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact, feature a full-HD+ (1080x2160 pixels) TRILUMINOS HDR display with Sony's proprietary X-Reality display engine. In terms of display and design, there are only two visible changes - their display sizes and rear-camera positions. The Sony ZX2 sports a 5.7-inch display while the ZX2 Compact gets a 5-inch display, with centre-placed rear fingerprint sensor on both flagships.
For the shutterbugs
In terms of optics as well, both the smartphones (read siblings) can't be set apart. Sony has offered, on both models, a 19-MP Motion Eye rear camera with autofocus, 4k HDR recording, 8x digital zoom, and in-house SteadyShot technology. Likewise, both XZ2 and XZ2 Compact sport the same front camera: a 5-MP, 23mm wide angle lens with SteadyShot technology.
Under the hood
Here too, Sony has not differentiated much between the two smartphones. Both XZ2 and XZ2 Compact are powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC (also seen on Galaxy S9, S9+), coupled with 6GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage which can further be expanded upto a whopping 400GB via a microSD card. Unsurprisingly, both the smartphones run Android Oreo 8.0 out-of-the-box.
United by everything, Separated by color and weight
While both the smartphones have 'literally' the same specs and features, Sony has made, choosing your next mobile, pretty simple. Just pick your favourite color. The XZ2, weighing at 198 grams, will come in Liquid Black, Liquid Silver, Ash Pink color and Deep Green variants. The XZ2 Compact, weighing at 168 grams, will come in Black, White Silver, Coral Pink and Moss Green variants.
Glad you asked
For obvious reasons, the bigger-sized XZ2 gets a 3,180mAh battery while the Compact version cases a 2,870mAh battery. However, both phones come with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 and support for wireless charging. In terms of connectivity options, Sony offers USB Type-C (3.1), NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi, GPS, Google Cast, GLONASS on both variants. Also, both phones are IP 65/68 rated.
