Sony's PlayStation Portal now supports cloud streaming of PS5 games
Sony has given a major upgrade to its PlayStation Portal, adding cloud streaming for select PS5 games. Until now, the device only allowed game streaming from a PS5 console over Wi-Fi. Now, you can stream select PS5 titles directly from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog to your PlayStation Portal. The feature is currently in beta and requires a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription to access.
Internet speed requirements and feature limitations
To use the new cloud streaming feature, users will have to meet some internet speed requirements. You'd need a minimum connection of 7Mbps for 720p streaming while a higher quality 1080p stream would require at least a 13Mbps connection. However, not all PlayStation Plus features will be available with this initial launch of cloud streaming on the PlayStation Portal.
Unavailable features and restrictions
The cloud streaming feature on the PlayStation Portal won't support Game Trials, party voice chat, game invites for select games, 3D audio, or in-game commerce. Streaming of PS4 and PS3 games is also not possible. Child accounts are also excluded from using this new feature on the Portal device.
Beta availability and previous cloud streaming launch
The beta version of this new feature is available in several countries such as Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, and Germany. This comes after Sony introduced cloud streaming on PS5 consoles last year. The update also brings changes to the audio settings on the PlayStation Portal device.
Changes to audio settings in new update
The latest update for PlayStation Portal also comes with some changes to the audio settings. These include a lower minimum volume level and the option to adjust settings of a PlayStation Link device from the Portal's own settings menu. This enhancement will give the users more control over their gaming experience on the device.
