Snapchat launches ability to add GIFs to photos and videos
Snapchat has launched a new feature on iOS that allows users to add GIFs to their snaps and stories. The update comes in light of rival social media platform Instagram already featuring animated stickers and GIFs in stories. If you still haven't received the new update, you might want to download the latest version of the app from the Apple App Store.
Snapchat has partnered with GIPHY
To provide this functionality, Snapchat has collaborated with popular GIF repository GIPHY. The integration of GIPHY's huge library of animated stickers will let Snapchat users add a wide variety of GIFs to their photos and videos. They can move it around, pinch to expand, and rotate it as well. This comes in addition to Bitmojis and motionless stickers that Snapchat already supports.
Choose a GIF with keywords and add it to snaps
Users can either choose from a selection of trending GIFs, or search on their own using specific keywords like kisses, cats, foodie, and doggo. The search bar will show keyword suggestions and ultimately furnish the GIFs most closely related to the keyword.
Snapchat to also make changes to Discover and Friends pages
In other updates, Snapchat will also soon be rolling out Tabs to the Discover and Friends pages to help users better see content from professional creators and sort through friends' stories and group chats. The app was recently redesigned to show Snap Stories from friends in the same tab as personal chats. This update wasn't received well by Snapchat users globally.
GIPHY is valued at $300 million
GIPHY has long been integrated into the social media platforms of several tech giants including Facebook. The GIF search platform has recently raised a funding of $150 million and is currently valued at around $300 million.
