Snap CEO's sister to launch Pornhub for women
Normally, porn is associated with the idea of exploring sexual video content on the web. However, the younger sister of Evan Spiegel, the 28-year-old CEO of Snap, is taking a completely different route for sexual stimulation - a 'no visuals' porn site. Yes, Caroline Spiegel's first tech venture 'Quinn' will serve erotic content to women, without any kind of imagery/video. Here are the details.
Porn site without video: How it would work
Set to launch on April 13, Quinn would be a women-dedicated porn site with audio, text as the only drivers. "There's no visual content on the site - just audio and written stories. And the whole thing is open source, so people can submit content and fantasies, etc," she told TechCrunch, describing the site as "a much less gross, more fun Pornhub for women."
How it all started
The idea for Quinn stemmed from Caroline's own personal need. She struggled with sexual dysfunction and was disappointed by the lack of appropriate cures and products offering sexual assistance to women suffering from the problem. There are porn sites but very few for women, and most importantly, all of them feature visual content, which she says creates unhealthy body image pressure.
So, she added imagination into adult entertainment
The 22-year-old Computer Science major from Stanford, figured imagination could be the best way to eliminate the downside of visual porn. So, taking text and audio, she created Quinn where a person could imagine themselves in a scene. "Most visual media perpetuates the male gaze... all mainstream porn tells one story," she told TechCrunch.
Here's what Caroline said about audio on the site
"Our audio ranges from guided masturbation to overheard sex, and there's also narrated stories. It's literally everything. Different strokes for different for folks, know what I mean," Caroline said, noting that "the basic idea is to make people feel like it's okay to experience pleasure."
Also, the project has already been funded
The beta site of Quinn, as TechCrunch describes, features basic elements, but the public version will be out soon, giving a glimpse of what the future of porn could really look like. To note, the project has already been funded with less than a million dollars and its launch and initial growth will define how it really performs in the growing 'sextech' category.
