What's the story
According to a new study, 65% of Indians describe their smartphones as their best friend.
The study, by Motorola and Nancy Etcoff - an expert in Mind-Brain Behavior and the Science of Happiness, from Harvard University - found that India topped the list in terms of dependency on smartphones.
Here's more on the insights from the study.
Quote
India ahead of the world in smartphone dependence
"Approximately 50% people [globally] agreed that they check their phone more often than they would like and nearly 44% felt compelled to perpetually check their phones. India figures at the top with 65% and 57% respectively," said the study.
Phone-life balance
64% of Indians say they need help with phone-life balance
The study found that 47% of India's younger generation care more for their smartphones than engaging with the ones they love.
Additionally, 64% of Indians in the study said that they needed help with phone-life balance - defined by Motorola as the desire to have a technology to support lives without becoming the centre of it.
Dependence
Indians are overly dependent on their smartphones
The study also found that Indians top the chart when it comes to emotional dependence on their smartphones.
77% of Indians in the study admitted that they panic when they lose their smartphones and 53% confessed that they'd be happier if they spent less time on their smartphones.
Even when not using smartphones, 46% of Indians think about it.
