Google's Android dialer gets sound effects: Clapping, poop, and more
Google is set to improve the user experience of its Phone app with a fresh update, as first identified in a beta version by 9to5Google. This innovative feature, dubbed "Audio Emoji," will allow users to play one of six short sound clips during a call. The sounds, audible to both parties on the call, include clapping, laughter, a trombone mimicking crying, celebratory noises, a drum sting (ba-dum ts), and a humorous sound labeled as "poop."
Activating audio emojis in Android dialer
During a call, users can trigger these audio emojis either through the dialer's overflow menu, or by tapping on a small flag icon located toward the bottom of the screen. However, there is a limitation on how frequently these effects can be used due to a cooldown period. More information about this update is expected at the upcoming Google I/O event scheduled for May 14.
What about its availability?
The Audio Emoji facility is being rolled out through the newest Google Phone update in the beta channel (version 128). It is expected to be rolled out to all users in the coming weeks.
