Samsung just made 'Appel' community switch to Galaxy S9
After long flagship face-offs, the Samsung-Apple rivalry has become more of a tradition in the smartphone arena. Every year, Apple attracts its loyal fan base with new iPhones, while Samsung pulls intriguing, sometimes even hilarious, marketing stunts to lure them towards its own flagships. Something like that happened again, but the target of the stunt was 'Appel' - a town in the Netherlands' Gelderland province.
Innovative surprise for 'Appel' community; Well played, Samsung
As Dutch word Appel translates to Apple in English, the South Korean company decided to take an indirect dig at the iPhone-maker. The executives from the company visited the remote town and started giving away free Galaxy S9s. The idea was to introduce the 'Appel' community to a bit innovation and help them 'move forward'. You see what Samsung did there?
50 Galaxy S9s given away
Of some 312 Appel residents, 50 received free Galaxy S9s from Samsung. The executives started off with an 18-year-old Apple fan and went on to hand-deliver the smartphone to everybody they came across. The move, which was clearly well received by the people of 'Appel', was one of the subtlest digs ever taken against Apple.
Previous attempts to lure Apple buyers
Even in the past, Samsung had tried to lure Apple buyers with its not-so-subtle anti-Apple adverts. Just a few months back, it released an advert taking a jab at Apple's move to slow old iPhones down as well as its notched design concept. Even players like Huawei and Xiaomi have jumped on the bandwagon of mocking Apple with free giveaways and hilarious Ads.
Galaxy S9 v/s new iPhones
On the specifications front, Samsung's Galaxy S9 is quite similar to iPhone Xs and Xs Max. The device packs a high-resolution Super AMOLED display, 4GB RAM, as well as a dual-camera set-up. However, its elder sibling, the S9+, goes a step ahead with more RAM and a much bigger battery back. Both the phones run Android Oreo out-of-the-box with Snapdragon 845 processor under-the-hood.
