Samsung to fix Galaxy S20 camera issues via software update
Samsung-galaxy-s20-ultra'>Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra offers the best camera hardware ever on a smartphone, but not everything is rosy with the premium flagship. Early reviewers have found some issues with the camera system including an inconsistent autofocus and excessive skin smoothening. Meanwhile, Samsung has responded to these issues, saying it's working on an update to improve the camera performance on the S20 series.
Here's a look at the issues raised by early reviewers
According to several reviewers, the S20 Ultra's camera system is far from perfect. The autofocus system is unreliable. It sometimes takes too long to lock onto a subject and sometimes it just fails to do so. There are some color and exposure inconsistencies as well, particularly in low-light conditions. The image processing is also patchy and tends to excessively smooth out skin.
Samsung says it's bringing an update to improve the camera
In a statement, Samsung has said, "The Galaxy S20 features a groundbreaking, advanced camera system. We are constantly working to optimize performance to deliver the best experience for consumers. As part of this ongoing effort, we are working on a future update to improve the camera experience." However, the tech giant hasn't acknowledged any specific problem or confirmed when the fixes would be available.
On paper though, the hardware is on point
The high-end S20 Ultra features a 108MP main sensor, 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera, 48MP telephoto shooter with 10x hybrid optical zoom and 100x Super Resolution zoom, and a DepthVision sensor. The S20 and S20 Plus get a similar setup but with 12MP ultra-wide shooter, 12MP wide-angle shooter, and a 64MP tertiary sensor with an f/2.0 telephoto lens. However, the S20 doesn't have a DepthVision sensor.
For the selfie lovers
On the front, the regular S20 and the S20 Plus come with 10MP (f/2.2) selfie shooters. On the S20 Ultra, Samsung says there is a new 40MP front camera that gives pro-grade selfies. In low-light situations, the sensor shifts to 10MP with larger pixels.
