Samsung teases its foldable smartphone ahead of November 7 unveiling
Samsung is expected to showcase its first-ever (not the world's first) foldable smartphone at the upcoming developer's conference. So far, we know the phone will be a pocket-friendly tablet that will run a special version of Android. In the latest update, the company has hinted at the in-folding mechanism of the device by posting some new images. Here's everything we know about it.
Here's how Samsung is teasing its foldable smartphone
Samsung's foldable smartphone: Everything we know so far
Samsung's upcoming foldable device, internally codenamed as "Winner", is being dubbed as Galaxy F or even Galaxy X on the internet. Hopefully, we'll know its official name soon. Notably, the device will function as both a phone and tablet, sporting a main 7.3-inch internal display and a 4.58-inches external display.
Can be used both as a phone and tablet
The foldable device becomes a phone when folded. It can be unfolded for operating as a tablet, somewhat like a gaming-console similar to Nintendo's DS range. Earlier, a report said: "The in-folding type has a more drastic curvature rate. But due to the durability issue, the out-folding type is considered a more advanced next-generation technology." However, Samsung will definitely adopt the in-folding variant.
The upcoming phone will be launched globally
Earlier, Samsung Mobile chief DJ Koh noted that the device will not be a "gimmick product that will disappear in six to nine months after it's delivered." He also added that the phone will be made available globally. Reportedly, the production of the phone is expected to begin in November itself with the maximum volume set at under 100,000 units a month.
"Winner" is expected to be Samsung's most-expensive smartphone to date
The 'Galaxy F' or 'Galaxy X' or whatever it may be called, Samsung's foldable phone will be the company's most-expensive smartphone to date. According to reports, the phone may be priced anywhere between $1,500 (approx. Rs. 1,10,000) and $1,850 (approx. Rs. 1,35,700).
