Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra performs underwhelmingly in DXOMARK's camera tests
Samsung's newly launched S22 Ultra has scored 131 in DXOMARK's camera tests, placing it in the thirteenth position in global rankings and twelfth in the ultra-premium category. The France-based lab has adjudged that the smartphone's camera has failed to keep up with other flagship handsets. Some of the pros pointed out by DXOMARK include zoom photography and accurate exposure in all conditions.
Why does this story matter?
The Galaxy S22 Ultra arrives with the company's greatest camera setup yet. However, the damning review from DXOMARK which placed it on par with last year's OPPO Find X3 Pro is not good for the company and its flagship smartphone. The saving grace is that the lab tested the Exynos 2200 variant. The scores could be different for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 model.
"Slow autofocus for photos in many lighting conditions"
The Galaxy S22 Ultra has achieved a score of 134 in photography, 114 in videography, and 86 in zoom capabilities. According to DXOMARK, the phone offers images with accurate exposure and vivid colors, great long-range zoom, and videography with good stabilization. However, when compared to other flagships, it has slow autofocus in many lighting conditions and poor low-light performance as well as night shooting.
The handset features a 120Hz QHD+ display
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has a punch-hole cut-out on the top-center, slim bezels, curved edges, an IP68-rated build quality, and an in-display fingerprint sensor. The handset bears a 6.8-inch QHD+ (1440x3088 pixels) Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support, a 500ppi pixel density, and an aspect ratio of 20:9. Dimensions-wise, it measures 8.9mm in thickness and weighs 228g.
It sports two 10MP telephoto cameras
The Galaxy S22 Ultra sports a quad rear camera setup, including a 108MP primary sensor, a 10MP telephoto lens with 10x optical zoom, a 10MP telephoto snapper with 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultra-wide shooter. Up front, it has a 40MP selfie camera.
It offers up to 1TB of built-in storage
The Galaxy S22 Ultra is powered by an Exynos 2200/Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, mated with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of onboard storage (depending on the region). Under the hood, it boots Android 12-based One UI 4.1 and packs a 5,000mAh battery with 45W wired and 15W wireless fast-charging support.
