Samsung rolls out update for S20 smartphones with camera fixes
Samsung has started rolling out a software update that improves the advanced camera systems found on the Galaxy S20 series. Earlier this month, some early reviewers had reported camera issues on the new flagship smartphones, including inconsistent autofocus and excessive skin smoothing. However, the update is currently being released in the US and should arrive for others in the coming days.
So, what's new in this much important update?
While the update improves a number of features for the Galaxy S20 family, Samsung hasn't specifically detailed what fixes have been made to the camera systems. However, SamMobile reports that the new firmware "noticeably improves the focusing speed" on the S20 Ultra model. The publication notes that the update brings "an improved camera" for the Galaxy S20 and S20+ as well.
Here's recalling some of the issues reported by early reviewers
Early reviewers of the S20 series reported that the autofocus system was unreliable. Some color and exposure inconsistencies were also noticed, particularly in low-light conditions. Moreover, image processing also seemed patchy and it favored excessive skin smoothing.
Presently, the update is being released for unlocked models
According to SamMobile, the new update comes with a build number G98xU1UEU1ATCH and it is currently being rolled out to the unlocked variants of the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra in the US. However, those using a carrier-locked unit should get the firmware in the coming days. As for the Exynos-powered international models, the update was released earlier this week.
How to download and install the update?
If you own an unlocked Galaxy S20 model, you should see an update notification in the next couple of days. You can also manually check for the update by going to Settings > Software update menu and click on download and install.
