Samsung probably working on a bezel-less, dual-screen smartphone
According to a recently awarded patent, Samsung seems to be working on a device which is bezel-less and has two screens, one on the front and one at the back. Along with a secondary display, the patent indicates a Galaxy phone which is button-free, notch-free, and unfortunately, even headphone jack-free. So, Samsung might be developing a phone that will just be one giant screen.
On the horizon of the next-generation Galaxy smartphone
The new concept design shows that the wafer-thin top bar of the phone will still have the speaker and selfie camera. At the bottom, the phone places two speakers and a charging port. Since at the back will probably be the second screen, the fingerprint sensor might be in-display (which display, we don't know) or not be present at all (hello face unlock).
The futuristic smartphone definitely won't arrive before 2019
The patent application hints towards a phone design that is reminiscent of Samsung's Note series but don't expect any of this in the Galaxy Note 9, which is expected to launch later this year. Patents don't mean that a product will surely be developed, but they do highlight the design and technology a company wants to incorporate in its offerings.
The concept of a secondary display is not new
Smartphones like the YotaPhone and the Meizu Pro 7 already feature a second screen at the back of the devices. But so far, the implementation of this seemingly interesting idea hasn't been so impressive.
