Samsung's foldable phone will also be a pocket-friendly tablet
Samsung's foldable smartphone is almost here! And, it might be similar to what we have seen in the concept trailer released back in 2013 - a book-shaped tablet-cum-phone. In an interview to CNET, Samsung Mobile's head DJ Koh has said that when unfolded, the device will work as a tablet, but can be folded back into a pocket-friendly phone. Here's more on this.
Samsung's foldable phone will offer a unique experience
Concealing the finer details, Koh said the device would offer a tablet-like experience with multitasking capability but can also be folded into a portable phone. "When we deliver a foldable phone, it has to be really meaningful to our customer...If the user experience is not up to my standard, I don't want to deliver those kind of products," said Koh.
Samsung's foldable phone will be available globally
Koh noted that the device will not be a "gimmick product that will disappear after six to nine months after it's delivered." He added that the foldable phone will be made available globally and that its "niche market" will definitely expand.
Samsung could unveil the phone at its Developers Conference
Last month, Koh had said the company would release the foldable smartphone this year, possibly at its Developers Conference on November 7. Further, Koh had stressed that Samsung "didn't want to lose the world's first title" considering other OEMs are also working on foldable smartphones. We expect a prototype demonstration next month, while the official launch could be alongside Samsung S10 in 2019.

Samsung's Galaxy F, codenamed "Winner", is said to feature a 7-inch display that can fold into a pocket-sized device. The phone could possibly come with two displays - one primary 7-inch display and a smaller secondary display on the outside. Notably, this is a design that Samsung has been working on for some time now and got it patented last October.
Galaxy F will be a hybrid phone-cum-tablet device
The foldable device becomes a phone when folded. It can be unfolded for operating as a tablet, somewhat like a gaming-console similar to Nintendo's DS range. Earlier, a report said: "The in-folding type has a more drastic curvature rate. But due to the durability issue, the out-folding type is considered a more advanced next-generation technology." However, Samsung is likely to adopt the in-folding variant.
