Fresh problem for Samsung: Galaxy Note 8 just won't charge
Looks like troubles aren't yet over for Samsung. A year after several Galaxy Note 7 devices exploded due to defective batteries, similar problems are being reported about the Galaxy Note 8. The issue isn't as serious as explosion this time though: some users, mostly in the US, have reported their new phone won't charge once battery level hits zero.
All about the Galaxy Note 8
The Galaxy Note 8 hit the Indian markets in September'17 at a price of Rs. 67,900. The smartphone features a 6.3-inch Super QuadHD+ Super AMOLED 'Infinity' display and dual rear camera setup. There's a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC processor and a 3300mAh battery under its hood and the device runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The new S-Pen and Bixby were special features.
What's the issue with the Galaxy Note 8?
On sites like Reddit and Samsung's Community Forums, several users have reported that their devices switch off when battery reaches 0% and become unresponsive. Many tried different cables, restarting in safe mode or a hard-reset, but most failed. One user posted a video of attempting to revive their phone to no avail. According to Android Authority, the Galaxy S8 Plus is facing similar issues.
Is Samsung doing anything about it?
Samsung is undeniably aware of the issue and is apparently replacing defective phones on a case by case basis. A moderator on a Community Forum said: "This particular problem with the Note 8 not turning on is definitely something that we want to get addressed immediately." However, if some users are to be believed, the company is taking up to three weeks for resolution.
The infamous 2016 fiasco over faulty batteries in Note 7
Last year, there were several cases when users' Galaxy Note 7 blew up: 35 cases, according to Samsung. It asked people to switch off their devices and eventually recalled them globally, concluding the battery was at fault. The fiasco dealt a massive $5.2bn blow to Samsung's operating profits over three quarters. In July, it launched a new phone using parts of the Note 7.
