Bend it like Samsung: Galaxy Fold's durability video released

    What's the story

In a bid to put concerns regarding the durability of Galaxy Fold to rest, Samsung has released a stress-test video of its most-expensive phone till date.

The video, which underscores the durability of the foldable phone, comes days after a damning video highlighted a serious display issue on the $2,000 worth flagship device.

    Here's everything to know.

    First glance

What does the video try to establish

The video shows several Galaxy Fold devices being folded and unfolded by robotic arms in perfect synchronization.

More importantly, the video showcases the bending abilities of the phone wherein we can see the screens turn on fast on being unfolded.

Moreover, concerns over a display crease, fold gap, and display seam appeared less pronounced - perhaps, that's just purposeful choreography by Samsung.

    Durability

Samsung says Galaxy Fold can outlast 200,000 folds and unfolds

Samsung has claimed that its foldable phone can outlast 200,000 folds and unfolds i.e. roughly five years of use, assuming 100 folds a day.

However, contrary to this, Bloomberg recently reported that the crease flaw "appears on the panel after it's been folded about 10,000 times", meaning 50 folds a day and in 6-7 months, your $2,000 phone won't look or work the same.

    Solution?

Is Samsung trying to circumvent the Galaxy Fold issues?

Till date, Samsung hasn't offered a hands-on experience to anyone except its employees. Moreover, these polished videos seem to hide Galaxy Fold's less immaculate design.

But given the device hits the shelves on April 26, we don't know how the Korean tech giant will solve this technological limitation on the premium device.

Perhaps, a free screen replacement may be in the offing.

    At a glance

Meanwhile, here's recalling the Galaxy Fold

Samsung's first-ever foldable phone, the Galaxy Fold features a 4.58-inch HD+ external screen, a 7.3-inch QHD+ Infinity Flex display, and a total of six cameras.

It is powered by a Snapdragon 855 chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.0 storage.

Under the hood, the phone has a battery capacity of 4,380mAh and runs Android Pie-based One UI.
