Images of much-awaited Galaxy S9 leaked from Samsung's own app
The images of the much-awaited Samsung Galaxy 9 smartphone have been leaked from an app released by the Korean tech giant itself. Samsung had created an app called 'Unpacked 2018' for the invitees of the flagship smartphone's official launch event, from where the images were sourced. The phone will be launched at the MWC 2018, to be held from February 25-March 1 in Barcelona.
Samsung might present Galaxy S9 in AR
The leaked images of the Galaxy S9 feature computer-generated models of the phone. This backs up earlier revelations that Samsung plans to launch the smartphone in augmented reality (AR). According to reports, a Reddit user decompiled the Android version of the app's software to fool Samsung into sharing the said imagery which was inside a hidden AR feature of the app.
The images were lifted directly from Samsung's servers
"The 3D models that we obtained were lifted directly from Samsung's server where they are hosted. Anything that is published ahead of Samsung's event is an embarrassment to them ... we are sure they wanted to keep this a secret," a media report said.
Here is what we know about the phone so far
The leak confirms the device will come in a new color of Lilac Purple, feature a Bixby button, and resemble its predecessor the Galaxy S8 smartphone. The fingerprint sensor on the phone has moved underneath the rear camera. It might also include a dual aperture camera, allowing users to adjust how much light is captured in a photo.
Hopefully Samsung can still awe users at the launch event
Over 20 images of the phone have been leaked online. This can harm the company's plans to make an AR statement at its press event, which is expected to be the biggest and the most expensive phone at MWC'18. An industry expert said, "Such events offer an opportunity to deliver the product in a controlled environment. It allows Samsung to flex its marketing muscles."
