This new Samsung phone is an affordable Galaxy S8 variant
Samsung's upcoming smartphone, earlier called the Galaxy S9 Mini, was recently seen on Geekbench - a platform that rates a processor's performance. However, that Geekbench handset with model number SM-G8750 has now been spotted on a Chinese certification website and it's called the Galaxy S8 lite, and not S9 Mini. Moreover, the listing has also revealed certain specifications of the smartphone. Here's our roundup.
The phone may be a 'lite' version of Galaxy S8
Looking at the specs revealed by the Chinese certification website, the phone appears to be a budget variant of Galaxy S8. There are some certain telltales like screen resolution and processor speed that suggest S8 Lite is indeed a "lite" variant of Samsung's 2018 flagship.
Galaxy S8 Lite will have the same screen-size as S8
According to the listing, S8 Lite will have a 5.8-inch, 1,080*2,220 pixels resolution display with 18.5:9 aspect ratio. Notably, it is the same size as the Galaxy S8's 1,440*2,960 pixel resolution screens, but with lower resolution. Further, the heart-rate sensor seen on Galaxy S8 is also missing on this variant. Considering the aforementioned points, it certainly looks like a budget variant of Galaxy S8.
S8 Lite will sport S8's body, but not its camera
The Galaxy S8 Lite gets a 16MP camera while the flagship S8 came with a 12MP rear shooter. Looking at other Samsung smartphones, the company generally uses 16MP sensors on its cheaper A-series smartphones. Moreover, on the S8 Lite, the fingerprint scanner is seen on the right-side of the rear camera - exactly the same position that we have seen on the Galaxy S8.
The new Samsung handset will have inferior processor than S8's
According to the listing, S8 Lite will be powered by an octa-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz or 1.9GHz. However, this is again lower than S8's processor with 2.35GHz clock speed. Also, as per the Geekbench listing, the new Samsung handset has been suggested to sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor - a much inferior chipset than S8's Snapdragon 835 processor.
What's common between the two Samsung phones
Firstly, you have the same design, down to the exact S8 dimensions - 148.9x68.1x8.0mm and a weight of 155g. Secondly, you get the same 3,000mAh battery, 8MP front camera, iris scanner, 4GB RAM and 64GB storage pairing, and the same Bixby button on the left side, used for summoning Samsung's smart assistant. Lastly, you get the same connectivity options and onboard sensors as well.
Launch and Availability
Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S8 Lite is expected to launch soon, given the fact that this handset was earlier spotted on Geekbench and has now landed on China's TENAA - a mobile certification authority.
