Samsung announces flagship smartphones and tablets at Galaxy Unpacked 2022
Samsung has launched the S22 series of smartphones as its latest and greatest smartphones ever at the Galaxy Unpacked 2022 event. The premium handsets have been joined by the company's best tablets to date, the Tab S8, S8+, and S8 Ultra. The Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra boast a premium design, upgraded displays and cameras, and top-tier performance. Here is everything to know.
The Galaxy S22 series gets 120Hz AMOLED display
The Samsung Galaxy S22 series has a punch-hole design, slim bezels, an IP68-rated build quality, and an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor. The S22 and S22+ sport a 6.1-inch and 6.55-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED screen, respectively, whereas the S22 Ultra bears a 6.8-inch QHD+ AMOLED display. They offer up to 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support. Only the Ultra model supports S Pen.
S22 Ultra has a quad rear camera system
The Galaxy S22 and S22+ are equipped with a triple rear camera module comprising a 50MP primary lens, a 12MP ultra-wide snapper, and a 10MP telephoto shooter. Up front, the duo has a 10MP selfie camera. The S22 Ultra packs a 108MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, and two 10MP telephoto shooters with 10x optical zoom. For selfies, it has a 40MP snapper.
The phones run on Android 12
The S22 series is backed by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1/Exynos 2200 processor, paired with up to 12GB RAM and up to 1TB storage (depending on the region). The S22 houses a 3,700mAh battery with 25W wired charging, while the S22+ and S22 Ultra pack 4,500mAh and 5,000mAh batteries with 45W wired fast-charging. They boot Android 12-based One UI 4.1 and pack stereo speakers.
How much do the new S22 phones cost?
The Galaxy S22 and S22+ start at $800 (around Rs. 59,800) and $1,000 (roughly Rs. 74,800), respectively, for their base 8GB/128GB models. The S22 Ultra carries a price-tag of $1,199 (nearly Rs. 89,700) for the entry-level 8GB/128GB model. The handsets are available for pre-orders starting today and will go on sale from February 25. India availability and pricing details are yet to be announced.
The tablets sport a 120Hz display
The Tab S8 range features a rectangular screen with slim bezels and a premium construction. The vanilla S8 has an 11.0-inch QHD+ (2560x1600 pixels) LCD display with 120Hz refresh rate and a side-mounted fingerprint reader. The S8+ and S8 Ultra sport 12.4-inch QHD+ (2800x1752 pixels) and 14.6-inch QHD+ (2960x1848 pixels) Super AMOLED displays with 120Hz refresh rate, respectively. They have an in-display fingerprint sensor.
Tab S8 Ultra has dual 12MP cameras on the front
The Tab S8 series has a dual rear camera arrangement, comprising a 13MP main shooter and a 6MP ultra-wide lens. Up front, the S8 and S8+ offer a single 12MP ultra-wide snapper, whereas the S8 Ultra boasts a 12MP standard and a 12MP ultra-wide camera.
The devices come bundled with an S Pen
The Tab S8 series is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 512GB of expandable storage. The tablets run on Android 12, pack quad speakers, and come bundled with an S Pen for enhanced productivity. The S8, S8+, and S8 Ultra house a 8,000mAh, 10,090mAh, and 11,200mAh battery, respectively, with 45W fast-charging support.
The Galaxy Tab S8 range starts at $700
The Galaxy Tab S8, S8+, and S8 Ultra start at $700, $900, and $1,100, respectively. The order books for the new tablets are currently live in some regions and they are expected to be shipped later this month.
