Samsung's S22 series receives over 70,000 pre-orders within 12 hours
Samsung has received over 70,000 pre-bookings for its all-new Galaxy S22 series of smartphones in less than 12 hours, the tech giant has announced. According to the company, this is a new record for its flagship smartphones in India. The S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra were launched in India on February 17 and the order books for the trio had opened on February 23.
Why does this story matter?
The Galaxy S22 series is the most advanced range of handsets from Samsung to date. Therefore, it is not surprising that the flagship series has received an overwhelming response in the Indian market. The sheer number of pre-bookings dwarfs Samsung's previous records in India. Although we don't know the exact pre-orders for each handset, the total number of pre-bookings is a sizable achievement nonetheless.
The handsets feature a 120Hz AMOLED display
The Galaxy S22 series features a centrally-aligned punch-hole cut-out, slim bezels, an IP68-rated build quality, and an in-display fingerprint sensor. The S22 and S22+ bear a 6.1-inch and 6.55-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED display, while the S22 Ultra sports a 6.8-inch QHD+ AMOLED screen. They have up to 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support. The S22 Ultra also offers support for the S pen.
The S22 and S22+ have a 50MP main camera
The Galaxy S22 and S22+ sport a triple rear camera setup, including a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide shooter, and a 10MP telephoto lens. Up front, they have a 10MP selfie snapper. The S22 Ultra flaunts a 108MP main snapper, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, and two 10MP telephoto lenses with 10x optical zoom. It has a 40MP selfie shooter on the front.
They are powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip
In India, the Galaxy S22 series draws juice from a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, paired with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of onboard storage. The S22 houses a 3,700mAh battery with 25W fast-charging support, whereas the S22+ and S22 Ultra pack a 4,500mAh and 5,000mAh battery, respectively, with 45W fast-charging capability. The handsets boot Android 12-based One UI 4.1.
