Samsung to use custom 108MP CMOS sensor for Galaxy S11+
Samsung has some major camera upgrades planned for the Galaxy S11 series to take on rivals such as the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro, and Google's Pixel 4. Notably, reputed tipster Ice Universe has confirmed that the highest-end Galaxy S11+ will use a custom 108MP CMOS sensor and not the ISOCELL Bright HMX that recently debuted on the camera-centric Mi Note 10.

According to Ice Universe, the S11+ will use a 1/1.3-inch 108MP custom sensor designed by Samsung itself. It will be based on the low-power CMOS technology and the size of the sensor will remain the same as that of the 108MP ISOCELL Bright HMX co-developed by Samsung and Xiaomi. However, he claims that Samsung's custom sensor will offer superior quality than the ISOCELL unit.
The custom image sensor could be exclusive to S11+
Ice Universe claims that Samsung's image sensor also costs more than the ISOCELL one. However, it remains to be seen if the sensor would be exclusive to the top-tier S11+ model to mark some distinction from the standard S11 and justify a higher price tag.
Galaxy S11, S11+ will also pack a 5x telephoto sensor
Further, a Bloomberg report has claimed Galaxy S11 will also sport a 108MP sensor for the main camera, the type of which remains unclear at the moment. The main sensor will be joined by an ultrawide-angle lens, a 5x optical zoom lens, and a 3D ToF sensor. This camera arrangement is expected on the Galaxy S11+ as well.
Galaxy S11-series will even offer a "Bright Night" sensor
As per a recent patent filed by Samsung with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the S11 series will debut a dedicated low-light imaging sensor called "Bright Night". Moreover, going by some One UI 2.0 beta code references, the Galaxy S11 will support 8K video recording as well as several new photography and videography modes including Director's View and Night Hyperlapse modes.
