Galaxy S10+ v/s iPhone Xs Max: The battle royale
Samsung Galaxy S10+, set to launch on February 20, is primed to be Samsung's most advanced flagship to date. In fact, if the latest leak is to be believed, the marquee handset could be the hit that the Korean giant needs as Huawei and Apple close in to clinch the top spot. So, here's how Galaxy S10+ will fare against Apple's iPhone Xs Max.
Design: At a glance
Contrary to the notch trend popularized by the iPhone X and carried forward by the iPhone Xs Max, the S10+ will feature an Infinity-O display with a pill-like camera hole on the top-right corner of the curved display. This design will allow for an increased screen-to-body ratio, perhaps, the highest ever on a Samsung smartphone. Winner: Galaxy S10+ for its novel design.
All about the screen
Apple's biggest and most expensive flagship yet, the iPhone Xs Max features a 6.5-inch Super Retina AMOLED display with a resolution of 2688x1242 pixels (458ppi) and an aspect ratio of 19.5.9. In comparison, the upcoming S10+ is said to sport a 6.3-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED display (3040x1440 pixels) with 522ppi pixel density and 19:9 aspect ratio. Winner: Galaxy S10+ for its crispier display.
For the shutterbugs
On the back, the iPhone Xs Max gets a 12MP (f/1.8, OIS) wide-angle lens, paired with a 12MP (f/2.4, OIS) telephoto lens. The S10+ will sport a triple camera setup featuring a 12MP (f/1.5) main sensor with dual-aperture and dual-pixel OIS, a 12MP (f/2.4) telephoto sensor with OIS, and a 16MP (f/2.2) fixed-focus ultra-wide angle sensor. Winner: Galaxy S10+ for its superior camera optics.
For the selfie lovers
Up front, the S10+ will have a dual front-camera setup comprising a 10MP (f/1.9) main sensor and an 8MP (f/2.2) secondary sensor with dual pixel autofocus. Reportedly, the phone is touted to be the world's first selfie camera to record 4K video and capture UHD selfies. On the other hand, the iPhone Xs Max settles for a 7MP (f/2.2) selfie camera. Winner: Galaxy S10+.
All the important stuff
The iPhone Xs Max runs on the 7nm A12 Bionic chip, paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB/256GB/512GB of built-in storage. In comparison, the S10+ will be powered by an 8nm Exynos 9820 chipset or 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, paired with upto 12GB of RAM and upto 1TB of embedded storage. Winner: Galaxy S10+ for its gargantuan storage capabilities and best-in-class internals.
Lifeblood of your smartphone
While S10+ will run Android Pie-based One UI, the iPhone Xs Max is backed by iOS 12 - both being the latest OS available for smartphones. Moreover, the latest iPhone banks upon Face ID, Apple's 3D facial scanning tech, for unlocking the device. On the other hand, S10+ will house the world's first ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor. Winner: Tie, until we test out S10+.
Staying connected: Battery & Connectivity
While S10+ is said to pack a 4,100mAh battery, the iPhone Xs Max is backed by a roughly 3,000mAh battery. Moreover, while the Apple flagship supports fast and wireless charging, the upcoming Samsung flagship is likely to offer faster wireless charging and reverse charging. Notably, S10+ will also be one of the rare 2019 flagships to come with a headphone jack. Winner: S10+.
Pricing: The key factor
The iPhone Xs Max costs Rs. 1,09,900 for the 64GB storage variant, Rs. 1,24,900 for the 256GB model and Rs. 1,24,900 for the 512GB storage option. In comparison, the Galaxy S10+ is expected to come at a starting price of around Rs. 75,000.
How things stack up?
From industry-best display to top-of-the-line cameras, and from lag-free flagship performance to a headphone jack and reverse charging, the Galaxy S10+ looks to be a near perfect smartphone. Moreover, this premium blend of design innovation and high-end internals will still retail for several thousand rupees less than the already old iPhone Xs Max. Winner: Samsung Galaxy S10+, the new benchmark in the smartphone space.
