Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite spotted on Geekbench with Snapdragon 855
Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite, expected to be launched alongside the Galaxy S10 and S10+, has been spotted on processor benchmarking site Geekbench. According to the listing, the handset has a model number SM-G970U and comes with the premium internals including Snapdragon 855 - something that previous reports have also suggested. However, the Geekbench scores seem very low, given the powerful chipset. Here's more.
Firstly, here's understanding Geekbench and Geekbench scores
Geekbench is a cross-platform processor benchmark platform which grades processors on their single-core and multi-core performances. While calculating multi-core scores, Geekbench runs multiple streams of instructions simultaneously per core and reports an aggregate score. With single-core scores, the same process is applied but on a single core. Notably, the quicker a CPU completes the instructions, the higher is its Geekbench score.
What does Galaxy S10 Lite's listing tell us?
According to the Geekbench listing, the S10 Lite will come with a 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, paired with 6GB of RAM and Android Pie support. However, we expect to see an 8nm Exynos 9820 processor and possibly other RAM options, depending on the region/country. In terms of scores, the S10 Lite managed a single core score of 1,986 and 6,266 for multiple cores.
Galaxy S10 Lite's Geekbench scores are disappointing: Here's why
We know Snapdragon 855 is one of the best flagship chipsets available for smartphones as of now. However, the Geekbench scores of S10 Lite's are more like as if the phone is running a Snapdragon 600-series process. And the only logical reason for these disappointing scores is that pre-release S10 Lite unit could be running an unstable build of Android Pie.
