Galaxy S10+ with Exynos 9820 performs better than Snapdragon 855?
Just days after Samsung Galaxy S10+ was spotted on Geekbench with Snapdragon 855 chipset, the flagship phone has once again been listed on the processor benchmarking platform. However, this time, Galaxy S10+ has appeared with an in-house Exynos 9820 processor. Interestingly, the scores suggest that the Exynos-powered variant has outperformed the Snapdragon-based S10+ model in the single-core tests. Here are the results.
Firstly, what is Geekbench and Geekbench's scores?
Geekbench is a cross-platform processor benchmark platform which grades processors on their single-core and multi-core performances. While calculating multi-core scores, Geekbench runs multiple streams of instructions simultaneously per core and reports an aggregate score. With single-core scores, the same process is applied but on a single core. Notably, the quicker a CPU completes the instructions, the higher is its Geekbench score.
Here's how Galaxy S10+ with Snapdragon 855 performed on Geekbench
Samsung Galaxy S10+, with model number SM-G975U, was recently spotted on Geekbench with a 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, paired with 6GB RAM and Android Pie support. In terms of performance, the Galaxy S10+ variant managed to score 3,413 in single-core tests and 10,256 in multi-core performance.
Here's how Galaxy S10+ with Exynos 9820 performed on Geekbench
Another Galaxy S10+ variant, with model number SM-G975F, has now appeared on Geekbench with an 8nm Samsung Exynos 9820, coupled with 6GB RAM and Android Pie support. In terms of grading, this variant scored 4,472 in single-core tests and 10,387 in multi-core tests, outperforming the Snapdragon 855-powered S10+ model that managed only 3,413 in single-core tests.
But why such a significant difference in performance?
The possible explanation for the difference in single-core scores of S10+ variants is the difference in base frequency of the two chipsets. The S10+ with Snapdragon 855 chipset had a base frequency of 1.78 GHz whereas the Exynos 9820 based model gets a higher base frequency of 1.95 GHz. Hence, it is possible that an underclocked Snapdragon 855 processor was tested previously.
Galaxy S10+ could be quite slower than the iPhone Xs
As far as Geekbench performance is concerned, Galaxy S10+ appears to quite slower than the 7nm A12 Bionic-powered iPhone Xs. Notably, the Apple flagship had scored 4,803 in single-core tests and 11,447 in multi-core performance.

According to several leaks and reports, the S10+ will sport a 6.44-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with curved edges, QHD+ resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. The flagship will also house an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor along with dual front and triple rear cameras. Further, it will run on Android Pie-based One UI and pack a 4,000mAh battery with support for two-way wireless charging.
Samsung Galaxy S10+: Pricing and availability
According to Gizmodo UK, the S10+ will come in 128GB, 512GB and 1TB storage options and they will retail at £899 (Rs. 81,580), £1,099 (Rs. 99,730), and £1,399 (Rs. 1,26,956), respectively. Moreover, the publication claims that the S10-series, which includes S10+, S10, as well as S10 Lite, will be available for pre-orders right after the launch event and go on sale starting March 8.
