Galaxy J2 Core: Samsung's first Android Go smartphone
In the fast-growing market of low-budget smartphones, Samsung has introduced its first Android Go smartphone in India. Dubbed as Samsung Galaxy J2 Core, the phone runs Android Go (Oreo edition) and comes with optimized apps such as YouTube Go, Maps Go and Assistant Go among others. What is Android Go?
Google's Android Go OS is an optimized version of the latest Android Oreo which is designed for low-configuration smartphones. The software comes with Lite version of several Google apps which load faster, consume less data, and take up less space.
At a glance
Like other budget handsets, the Galaxy J2 Core features a traditional display with thick top and bottom bezels. On the back, the phone gets a single camera paired with LED flash and a speaker grille. The Galaxy J2 Core sports a 5-inch qHD (540x960 pixels) TFT display and comes only in a Gold color option with a metal finish back panel.
For the shutterbugs and selfie lovers
On the back, the Galaxy J2 Core sports an 8-megapixel sensor with an f/2.2 aperture and an LED flash module. Up front, the phone gets a 5-megapixel sensor and comes with a Beauty Mode for enhancing portraits and selfies.
Under the hood
The Galaxy J2 Core is powered by a quad-core Exynos 7570 processor, paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage which can be expanded via a microSD card. The phone packs a 2,600mAh battery and runs Android Oreo 8.1 (Go edition). Moreover, Samsung has also pre-installed some utility features such as Optimised Data Control and Ultra Data Saving for data consumption management.
Connectivity options and sensors onboard the J2 Core
In terms of connectivity options, the Galaxy J2 Core supports dual-SIM (Nano) cards, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/A-GPS, Micro-USB, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Sensors on board the phone include an accelerometer and a proximity sensor. Notably, the phone lacks a fingerprint sensor and relies on Face Unlock functionality and passcode/pattern for secure unlocking of the device.
