Leak reveals design details of upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6
Samsung's upcoming foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold6 will feature a significant design overhaul, according to a recent CAD rendering. The anticipated changes include a broader outer display and more defined corners, mirroring the aesthetics of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Initially reported by SamMobile, the leaked details were briefly posted on social media by US-based phone case manufacturer Thinborne, before being swiftly removed.
Better viewing experience on the outer display
The CAD rendering suggests a departure from the slim and elongated outer display that was characteristic of earlier Z Fold models. The Z Fold5's outer display had a 23:9 aspect ratio, which made common smartphone tasks feel somewhat restricted. According to industry insider Ice Universe, the leaked image of the Galaxy Z Fold6 indicates a marginally broader outer display, increasing from roughly 57mm on the Z Fold5 to about 60mm on the upcoming model.
Concerns over camera quality and aspect ratio persist
Despite the design modifications, there are ongoing concerns about the camera quality and aspect ratio of the Galaxy Z Fold6 in comparison to rival devices like OnePlus Open. The camera on the Z Fold5 did not meet expectations for a high-end foldable device. There are whispers that the Z Fold6 may only offer minor camera enhancements. Additionally, with an altered ~22:9 aspect ratio, the device could still fall short of the OnePlus Open, which boasts a wider ~20:9 aspect ratio.
Rumors of an 'Ultra' version of Galaxy Z Fold6
There's buzz about a possible 'Ultra' version of the Galaxy Z Fold6 that could address some of these issues. This premium model could boast an improved camera setup, a more user-friendly outer display, and even S Pen integration akin to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Samsung's foldable devices were once market leaders, but they now face stiff competition from other brand offerings.
