What's the story

Samsung's Galaxy Fold, which was estimated to release in June, could be delayed further. According to Yonhap News Agency, the tech giant will not meet the expected launch schedule as the "quality stabilization work will take longer than planned." To recall, Samsung had earlier delayed the release of Galaxy Fold after reports of display breaking issues on the $2,000 worth foldable phone emerged.

Samsung needs more time to stabilize hardware quality

Reportedly, Samsung has fixed the issues on Galaxy Fold and is testing out the redesigned model. And while the company was expected to announce a new release date soon, Yonhap has learned that stabilizing the hardware quality of remodeled units is taking longer than expected. It also apparently has to re-certify the device for use with mobile networks which will further cause a delay.

Information

New release schedule could be announced in June

The Yonhap report highlights that Samsung is expected to announce a new release schedule next month, adding that Galaxy Fold could launch in South Korea before arriving in the US.

Meanwhile, Galaxy Fold pre-order cancellation deadline ends tomorrow

Earlier this month, Samsung mobile chief DJ Koh had said "we won't be too late" in releasing Galaxy Fold and indicated that new launch date would be announced in a couple of days. However, there has been no official update since then. Notably, the deadline for Samsung to either cancel pre-orders for the foldable phone or obtain consent to wait in line is tomorrow.

Concerns

Backstory: Galaxy Fold's release was suspended after damning reports

For the uninitiated, Samsung had suspended the release of Galaxy Fold after several reviewers reported display breaking issues on the foldable phone. In some cases, removing a plastic film did the damage while in others, the display randomly broke and went blank. However, in its initial findings, Samsung concluded that the issues could be associated with impact on the exposed areas of the hinge.

Improvements

Reportedly, Samsung has fixed its beleaguered foldable phone

To tackle the issue related to the protective layer on the device's display, Samsung has reportedly concealed the edges of the screen guard under the frame of the device to prevent users from peeling it off. Further, to address the hinge problem, the company has reduced the gap at the bottom which allowed for dust and debris to enter the phone and cause damage.
