Galaxy Fold is ready for launch, confirms Samsung executive
After indefinitely delaying the release of Galaxy Fold due to reported display issues, Samsung is apparently ready to launch the foldable phone sometime soon. According to a report, Samsung Display Vice President Kim Seong-cheol has confirmed that most of the display problems have been fixed and that Galaxy Fold is "ready to hit the market." Here's more on this development.
Most display problems ironed out, Fold to hit markets soon
"Most of the display problems have been ironed out, and the Fold is ready to hit the market," said Seong-cheol. He also noted that the company had high expectations from the device and that "it will receive a lot of attention in the market."
Reportedly, Samsung was taking time to stabilize hardware quality
While Samsung's executive has confirmed the Galaxy Fold's readiness for the market, he hasn't given any formal details regarding the launch timeline. According to an earlier report, Samsung is taking time to stabilize the hardware quality of remodeled units and to re-certify the foldable phone for use with mobile networks. Some rumors suggested Samsung could announce a new release schedule by June-end or early-July.
Backstory: Galaxy Fold's release was suspended after damning reports
For the uninitiated, Samsung had suspended the release of Galaxy Fold after several reviewers reported display breaking issues on the foldable phone. In some cases, removing a plastic film did the damage while in others, the display randomly broke and went blank. However, Samsung has tackled the issues by concealing the edges of the screen guard and by reducing the gap on the hinge.
Meanwhile, Huawei has also postponed the launch of Mate X
Separately, Huawei has also postponed the release of its Mate X foldable phone from June to September. The company said that it is following a "cautious" approach after the Fold debacle and conducting additional tests to make sure the premium device is ready for consumers.
